Columbus, GA - Columbus State University athletic director Jay Sparks announced this week that two department employees will have slightly different titles for the coming 2008-09 school year. Denisha Davidson and Brad Huskisson will add to or change their current titles. Davidson, in addition to her duties as assistant women's basketball coach, will become the school's senior woman administrator (SWA), while Huskisson - the acting head softball coach since Tiffany Tootle's departure - will now become the interim head coach for the Lady Cougar program.

Columbus, GA - Columbus State head women's basketball coach Jay Sparks has announced the signing of seven players for the 2008-09 edition of Lady Cougar basketball. The group includes two freshmen and two junior college transfers and three transfer athletes from other four-year schools.

Columbus, GA - As expected, three Columbus State players were drafted by Major League teams on Friday, the final day of the league's Amateur Draft. Rodney Rutherford, Korey Noles and James Thompson were all tabbed by MLB franchises on Friday. The three players are the first to be drafted since Garrett Groce was taken by the Tampa Bay Rays in teh 2004 draft.

Baseball: Bressoud Inks Deal with Los Angeles Angels http://csucougars.athleticsite.com/article.asp?articleID=1339

Columbus, GA - Columbus State junior catcher C.J. Bressoud is the first Cougar from the 2008 team to sign a professional contract. The Kennesaw native inked an agreement with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim on Tuesday. He has been assigned to the Cedar Rapids Kernels of the Midwest League.

Columbus, GA - Columbus State's list of spring All-American players grew by two this week when tennis players Agata Polcyn and Frank Suarez were named to the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division II All-American Teams. Both players earned the awards by finishing in the top 20 in the final Division II singles rankings.

Columbus, GA - The awards continue to pour in for Columbus State left-hander Korey Noles and slugging third-baseman Rodney Rutherford. Noles becomes the first pitcher in CSU history to be named Division II national Pitcher of the Year by two different voting bodies, while Rutherford was named First Team All-American by both organizations.

Columbus, GA -  The Peach Belt Conference office has announced both the PBC All-Sportsmanship team and the Presidential Honor Roll from the league's annual meetings in Hilton Head.  CSU's Rachael Darr and Korey Noles made the All-Sportsmanship team.  Each PBC member institution selected their own representative based on good sportsmanship and ethical behavior both on and off the sports setting.

M. Golf: Georgiou Named Second Team PING All-American http://csucougars.athleticsite.com/article.asp?articleID=1333

Columbus, GA -  For the third straight year, Columbus State's Andrew Georgiou has been named an All-American by the Golf Coaches Association of America.  The South African native was named to the PING All-America second team after compiling a team-best stroke average of 72.5.  He earned his first collegiate victory with a win at the Buccaneer Invitational back in April.  Georgiou, ranked #128 in Golfstat, never finished outside the top 20 in 12 events played.  He was a first team All-American as a sophomore, and was honorable mention as a freshman.

Columbus, GA -  The successful year for the Columbus State baseball team continued on Thursday as five players were chosen for the Daktronics South Atlantic Region teams.  Among those five players were First-Team selections Rodney Rutherford and Korey Noles, with Noles being named as Pitcher of the Year in the South Atlantic Region.
